Night MTB ride this Thursday

Postby Wal » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:04 am

Whatever that big shining thing in the sky is, I like it! At last the trails might get a chance to dry out a bit and make for some good MTB’ing. Anyone up for a blast around some local trails this Thursday evening? Thinking 7.15 at ECBR…

Forgot to mention: I have some spare lights I'm happy to loan if anyone wants to join in but doesn't have their own.

Tempting, I will only have standard road lights but this should be ok.

I'll bring along my spare light (15W halogen with 5xD-cell battery pack, good for about 2hrs burn), which you're welcome to borrow. The more lumens the better!

I'm not sure yet if I'm able to make this. Will know by Thursday though.
This morning I used 3 bikes to get to work. Split rim on CX bike, broken chainring on commuter bike, both happening within a mile of home. Got in eventually on the MTB bikes but it's hurts me to hear those kobbly tyres getting wasted on tarmac.

Aodan.

[quote]How fast will this be? I'm only hesitant in that I'm currently slower than ever now.

After the spectacularly crappy winter we've had I reckon quite a few of us are suffering a lack of form.

I'm quite happy to trundle along at an easy pace - I'm not after a training ride. By the sound of things if Aodan comes along he'll be slowed down a bit by a backpack full of spare parts...

Hope you can make it, Marco.

I might be up for this but got some questions about deal extreme lights...

How long do they take to charge?
Are people pluging the supplied charger into some kind of an adapter or can you just chop of the plug and attach a UK plug (minus the earth)?

I am definately planning on being there all things being equal. I have to leave work on time, get home, change and then get back to EC but should be ok. Use of the lights may be handy as this will be my first Night MTB ride. If am really struggling I will try to get to EC by 7:15 (on the way home) at least to say I won't be there. :?

Thanks

Use an adaptor - widely available for a couple of quid (try eBay). The battery takes maybe 3 hours to charge from flat (I haven't measured the time). There's actually a version that comes with a UK adaptor, but then you don't get the helmet mount.

Hal, if you'll struggle to get to ECBR by 7.15 we can make it 7.30, no problemo. I'll bring my spare light - you'll need it!

To be honest I still don't know my way around the local trails very well (especially in the dark!), but I'm sure we can put together a 1.5hr-ish ride.

I'm currently planning to be there*

This of course depends on how well the "Excusatron 2000 (tm)" works this afternoon.

What if you enter into the Excusatron 2000 the fact that you'll get your old pedals back if you go?

Excusatron 2000 (tm) appears to be broken.

See you at 7:15pm. If you get this message before leaving, please feel free to bring the pedals.

If you wait for me, I'll show you how to get round our "traditional" night ride loop.

On my way to a meeting tonight and as I was driving past Lloyd Park a super bright collection of lights was riding up the path on MTBs :D , looked like you had a good turnout. On my way back just past the Sandrock and there was another bright collection of lights on MTBs coming out the side road, was this you guys too? Would have been about an hour and a half later, wish I could have joined you.

Maybe you should upgrade to Excusatron 2010; it has lots of additional "Coldest winter for 30 years" features.
