London Womens Cycle Racing League

Postby higg » Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:53 am

The London Womens Cycle racing League was launched recently. The league ties together a number of already existing womens cycle races in the London area.

The full press release is here, http://www.lizrice.com/docs/Womens%20League_PR.doc

Purpose
=======
The purpose of the league is to encourage more women to take up cycle racing. It does this by creating a season long competition which will encourage everyone to attend the races and gather points. Hopefully, this also provides a more welcoming environment for new racers.

How it works
============
Points are allocated based on the results for each race. These points will be summed up through out the season and published on the website. The current league leader will wear the leaders jersey during the race. At the end of each race the leaders jersey will be presented to the new leader. There are various prizes at the end of the season.

The next step
=============
Check out the website for the full list of events and updates/tips/local training days

http://www.londonwomenscycleracing.com/

The first race is at Goodwood on 28th March. This will be a dedicated 3rd +4th cat event for women. It will also involve a training / induction session (exact format will be tailored on the day).

Addiscombe have affiliated to the league so it will be free to join, just pay the race entry (+day licence, if not a BC member) and put an "L" mark beside your name on the sign-on sheet.

I'm hoping to get along to this, though I haven't got a clue how as trains don't seem to run that early on a Sunday, or maybe there's engineering works.

Don't suppose anyone else is driving down and could offer a lift? There's a 4ths race at the same time as the women's (9.30) and E/1/2 and 3rds races at 11.30

This would be a great race for any women who'd like to have a go at racing for the first time. Chloe and I went along to a similar race at Chertsey last year. The training session before hand was very useful and encouraging, and the race itself, though hard was not at all scary and great fun!

Cheers,
Bridget

I'll be driving there but may already be giving lifts, I think it should be OK but let me check and get back to you.

Kate, Lucy and I are going to make it along to the first even in this series, at Goodwood, on Sunday. Any other Addiscombe women want to join us? Just to confirm, you don't need to have a BC racing licence but can pay an extra £5 on top of the £13 entry on the day.

Cheers,
Bridget
