On August 10th, 1980 I completed my first and only 12 hour event. I was joined by John Withey, John Smith and Ron Breeze. The headline in the Croydon Advertiser read “WITHEY’S RECORD” followed by “John Withey, riding for Addiscombe CC in the ECCA 12 hour event, broke the club record and also won the event with a magnificent 262.50 miles. He was supported by John Smith (235.25 miles), Glyn Durrant (214.10) and Ron Breeze (209.50).
