Virtual Time Trials

During the first Coronavirus lockdown of 2020, Addiscombe CC began a programme of virtual rides on Zwift. These included Saturday club runs and Wednesday evening time trials.

Both programmes were successful in providing a focus for club activity at a difficult time.

Once Coronavirus restrictions were lifted, many of the virtual time triallers joined the outdoor summer TT programme. We had greater numbers than we’d had the previous year.

So, we’ve decided to run a virtual TT programme through the winter from the beginning of November through to the end of March. The programme consists of a series of monthly competitions for Scratch, Handicap, Veteran’s and Women’s events with overall winners for the series.

There are 2 prerequisites for joining the virtual TT events:

Firstly, you need to follow Derek Cobb [WTRL] on Zwift. ACC uses the Zwift meet-up function to organise the events and currently I can only invite people who follow me – that’s a current Zwift limitation. You do need to let me know that you’ve followed me to join the virtual time trials as well! You can do this via the ACC Facebook page or by email to virtualrides@addiscombe.org

Secondly, we have automated the timing and results process. We use Strava segments to set the TT courses and provide finishing times for riders. You will need to authorise the ACC timing app to collect your Strava data for this to work, and set your privacy marking to either followers or everyone.

The authorisation link is available from Andy Knight by email to timingapp@addiscombe.org
