ACC racing – the season so far
ACC started of the 2015 road season with the strongest set of result and most racers for years.
Paul Hone opened the ACC points account with a well deserved 4th place in the Kingston Wheelers 3rd cat race on the 7th March. Having been in a few early breaks and with ACC always in the thick of the action eventually a break got away and held off till the end in some windy conditions.
Tom Hansell took a good win in a 4th cat race at the cyclopark on the 28th March, and followed that up with another win on the 6th April. This netted Tom 20 points and promotion to 3rd cat and big boy racing.
David Kennett and Paul Hone showed that being outnumbered 4 to 2 by Paceline RT (and a number of other riders) in the first Surrey League Handicapped race on 30th April is no barrier to winning. Paul went for a 2km solo break forcing the work onto the Paceline contingent with Dave sprinting from the bunch to take the win.
Matt Halvatzis took his maiden road win on the 3rd May with a well timed sprint in the SERRL race. With bad weather and selective parcors only a small number of racers made it to the finnish line and Matt showed himself the most powerful on the day.
Back to the cyclopark and Jonathan Pontin opened his 2015 account with a decent 6th place in a bunch kick to the line. He followed that up the next day with a 9th place in a very fast and flat SERRL race bunch sprint.
Steve Broomfield restarted his racing with a very strong performance in the E123 race at Hillingdon on 12th May, coming in 9th in a very strong field.
Other mentions go to the young Tom Hawkes who has been racing in the U16 boys races at Crystal Palace this season and is looking to break into the top 10. Ant McCoy and Ryan Bond have been trying their luck in 4th cat races and are getting closer to that big result and the young Tim Riley and Rich Arthur have started racing this season and are looking to open their accounts.
More results to follow as the season goes on. If you are interested in racing ask anyone on the clubrun who will point you towards one of the current racers or email Paul Hone at roadracing@addiscombe.org
