Alternatives Ride – Saturday 24th August 2019
This Saturday is looking to be another scorcher of a day and no better way to spend it than sitting by a lake enjoying a cafe stop at the Ruby ‘s Cafe near Capel. This is a 54 mile ride starting at Coulsdon South Station at 9am and taking us through the Surrey Hills .
The ride takes us through Chipstead, Walton-on-the-Hill, Hedley, along the peaceful Little Swizerland, past the bottom of Box Hill’s Zig Zag Road, and up through the private grounds of the Denbies Wine Estate, up to the top of Ranmore to take us well into Surrey Hills teritory. Sticking to the top of Ranmore Common the rides heads towards East Horsley, before turning off for Shere, into the big mountain biking teritory of Peaslake, up Radnor Road to take us back over the Green Sand Ridge, and then dropping down to Capel for the Ruby’s cafe set by a small fishing lake.
The journey home heads directly to Newdigate along familiar roads back towards Reigate and the quick slog home through Merstham and finally Coulsdon.
This is medium paced ride (equivalent to the 17mph group), waiting for stragglers at the top of drags and climbs.
