Alternatives Ride – Saturday 5th October 2019
The weather has turned and Autumn has now definitely arrived, where Saturday looks like a welcoming window in the rain we have been having. So we are heading for Chiddingstone and taking on some of the notable hills in Kent, such as Toys Hill, Ide Hill, and Yorks Hill (not all up hill). The ride is 49 miles, but with some heavier than usual climbing, plus some nice decents, so should be a good work out.
The ride starts at Coulsdon South Station (usual meeting time is 9am) and heads over Farthing Down over to Woldingham, then Titsey, dropping down to Clackett Lane past the M25 services. A small climb takes up to Limpsfield Chart and then over to Crockham Hill. Before dropping into the town a sharp left tales up another climb to Frog Hole for some great south facing views over Kent. The inconspicuous Puddleduck Lane gives us another short sharp climb that takes us out onto Toys Hill for us to complete. Another blast along the top of the Green Sand Ridge takes over to Ide Hill, for another short sharp climb for the Yorks Hill decent taking down into Chiddingstone for the Tulip Cafe.
The homeward bound ride takes a back the along the most direct route via Bough Beach, Edenbridge, and Bletchingley.
This is medium paced ride (equivalent to the 17mph group), waiting for stragglers at the top of drags and climbs.
