A grand day out
The fine weather has arrived in time for the first club event of the year – the Spring road race organised by Ben Fancourt. This was held at the excellent Cyclopark facility in Gravesend.

We had 18 riders out for the B race (beginners and 4th cats) and 13 out for the A race (fast, skinny types). From experience it’s the easiest way to try racing – no cars, no potholes, no pressure and riding with people you know. The next event (also organised by Ben) is on 17th August.
The circuit isn’t flat and is very exposed. With a strong Westerly blowing, riding in that direction was a bit challenging if you weren’t tucked behind someone. The advantage though is getting pretty much blown up the slope to the finish.
The black & yellow hordes assemble:
Racing is a serious busines
Well, mostly
Riders travel at extraordinary speeds
But there can be only one winner
Well two actually as there are two races. Ashley winner of the B race:
And Steve winner of the A race
