I take salbutamol inhaler for asthma and have to send off writtten confirmation fom my doctor to BC every season when I get my license, otherwise I don't get to race (or rather I'd get stripped of my results in the unlikely event that I ever win a 3rd cat race and get tested.)

If I can supply the paperwork at surrey league level I don't think Pereiro has much of an excuse at pro level. Frankly I would have already stripped him of the runner up slot for his inability to produce the paperwork up to this point.

Who came third? Kloden? Could be the winner soon :-)

Following Huw's point, I too have an inhaler as I have what is described as "exercise induced asthma".

If I ride at a reasonable pace, I do not have to use it, it is only when I want to ride over 90% max, and if I don't take it, I cough and spew my lungs up, but having taken it, am OK. I really don't think it makes any difference to the effort I can put in, just allows breathing to recover as a "normal" person would.

Also, it is prescibed by Dr and is legal.

the landis affair seems to be in increasing danger of not being resolved before this year's event. which would surely be a PR disaster, every news story in the UK will mention the fact. any movement?

I doubt very much that Kloeden is clean, ive always had my suspicions about him.

Remember his 'amazing' come back at the '04 tour, after having been crap for a few years... Interesting.

Wasn't Kloden a product of the same East German system as Ullrich. In fact didn't they go to the same sports school?

It's the thing that has always amazed me about Zabel (as much as I like him) that he is seen as a clean rider, albeit having tried EPO once and not liking it, when he was from the same East German system.

Having read the summaries from the past couple of days on CyclingNews (rubbish) and VeloNews (much better), it's looking increasingly likely that Floyd will be acquitted for the seemingly common reason of discrediting the testing.

This site has loads of info:

I wonder if it would be William Fotheringham? My only reason for suggesting that is that he's the only Guardian cycling journalist I can remember! Of course, he's also an excellent journalist, well-respected, well-connected, etc.

Did you ever listen (it may have been you who posted it Marco) to that mp3 recording of an interview with Floyd immediately after the news broke last year, and before Floyd had issued his public denial?

He was asked (I think) if he had doped, and his reply was a bizarre: "I guess I should say no". A very weird interview.

Back to the article, given the doubts expressed about the testing, I suspect this paragaph sums up the case:
Meier-Augenstein, a professor from Queen's University in Belfast, Ireland, and an expert in IRMS analysis, took a similar tack, calling into question many of the French lab's findings.

"From what I have seen I would not have great confidence in the results," the quick-tongued, owlish professor said during direct questioning from Landis lead attorney Maurice Suh. "There are a lot of assumptions being made. I'm terribly sorry, but if someone's life depends on it, and his career depends on it, you don't go on assumptions."

Not sure he looks that much like an owl though.

As Marco points out a damn sight more praiseworthy than David Millar who when accused of doping badmouthed his team mates who had been caught and had explained to the authorities the extent of doping (including Millar), only confessed when the EPO phials were found in his house (not the sharpest knife in the drawer), did not provide any information as to who had provided and helped him dope and thus helped to ensure that the whole dirty system continues.

He then has the nerve to make a comeback as some sort of champion of drug-free cycling

We haven't seen this many germans coming clean since they installed a public shower unit at the battle of the Somme
"I took EPO in 1996 but I stopped taking it after a week because of secondary effects," a visibly emotional Zabel told a press conference. "It was my only experience with doping in my whole career."

very sensible to stop so soon, and avoid any other doping

Riis has now finally admitted the obvious.

Has anyone got the balls to admit that it is still just as endemic :?:
