Advice on new track pump?

Postby Amy » Sun Jan 04, 2015 8:47 pm

My old Joe Blow has been 'borrowed' from the garage where it has been for many years now so I am looking for a new track pump.

Cycle Surgery has 4 different models of the Joe Blow, Evans has 9!! - any recommendations? Looking for something that'll last, easy to use and not too expensive... Will be kept in flat.

Cheers 8)

Amy,

I have a track pump from Clas Ohlson, in Croydon. I've had it for 2 to 3 years with no problems at all. Their site shows it still for sale at £19.99 (with 2 yr guarantee). It caters for 3 different valve types and I think it it does 160 psi although I've only used my one up to 120 psi. See Asaklitt Bicycle Pump with Pressure Gauge.

For some reason I've brain washed myself into continually buying Blackburn Designs pumps, I've got about 10 now of all shapes and sizes. This is mainly because it was the sales pitches I used to give when I was the shop boy. Anyway, I keep buying them mainly because of the Life-Time warranty, but they are awful at honouring it outside of the States. I've had a bit more success recently, and I have to admit my TP-4 is a quality pump, now that it's been serviced. I do have a lot of problems with all of them though.

Dad has a Topeak JoeBlow a cheepy one and it is horrible, cheap materials, and the barrel is way to large a volume so it is hard to get a pressure above 100psi without extraneous effort.

We have a Lezyne that belongs to work and they look the absolute business quality wise and build, but in action it is awful because it screws onto the valve and often unscrews the valve when you try to remove it and thus letting all the air out of it.

Therefore, honestly I don't know what the answer to this question is either.

Thanks, they probably don't make'em like they used to! But I will bear in mind some of these suggestions should anything happen to the Joe Blow (got some funny looks from people at work and on the train when I took it home...)
