Why is the Forum dead

It seems that nobody bothers to post these days-can`t all be out on your bikes as it is peeing down most days.

Judging by the recent e-mail that went round other forms of social media are being used. I am probably in the same boat as you as I rely on this Forum to keep me up to date, partnered with the occasional club e-mails.

I hope it might pick up as people start doing more. When I have finalised what I am doing this year I will probably post in the Rides sections to see if anybody wants to join me. Probably won't be doing much racing, if any!!

Dominic, you're not the only one - as far as I'm concerned any news should be on here. Try to put anything on Faceache and it's gone before the hour's up if not before! I'm also hoping to get out a bit more this year and do different rides so this will be where I post the information. I might be doing some easy rides towards the end of this week though what with my Dad in a care home and Mum in hospital at present they may not happen as intended (wasn't expecting the latter when I booked this week off before Christmas). But some rides may be necessary for my mental wellbeing as well trying to get some fitness back...

Would it be possible for some of the sticky threads to be updated? Having things titled ...2014 doesn't help with making the Forum look like it is live!
For instance, I know the VC list stayed the same at the last AGM (Dec 2015) but effectively they are the current VC's for 2016.

Hmmm - Terry, I'm sure there are a number of reasons why keyboard warrior types and forum bloggers have disappeared. Have they said all they need to say and things begin to sound all the same?? the blatant lack of posts and equally lack of reponses to posts, we'd much rather read about someone else's exploits rather than share our own. In behavioural terms non posting simply reinforces even more non posting. Seeing how good the road racing boys did last year it's a shame not to read more responses.

I'm sure also a lot of us get our cycling Buzz from other online websites, magazines and forums. Although even on places like the very popular
"cycle forums" there is a lot less traffic. Also consider cycling is super popular now so no need to get your kicks from secret little club forum groups when you can say it - if it needs to be said - via Facebook, Twitter, wassup groups etcFinally I'm not sure how much better other club forums are doing.

Norwood Paragon - not much going on
Redhill - nada
Of the bigger clubs
Kingston Wheelers - buck the trend a bit apparently very popular so you gotta be a member to view their forum now
London Dynamo - they never did sharing anyway so not sure how popular their forum now is
Dulwich Paragon - also gone all snobby and exclusive since their rise from the ashes (personally I think it's that lovely blue kit that did it!)

The racers do chat via whatsapp and group emails (anybody can join us) as there seems to be little interest outside the group.

I did post on Facebook a little while ago that it’s a shame the forum has died as I miss the debates we used to have. I also note our Social & Club Events seem to be in decline with the exception of the Saturday CR.

I thought it was outdated but if the KW forum is thriving what is the difference? I note Kingston Wheelers are more selective who they let join and “want members to be fully involved with all aspect of the club and not just follow a ride on Sunday morning” while it is optional at Addiscombe.

Are we becoming just a group of people who ride together on Saturday rather than a club?

Not all Clubs Amy. Valuable members like Keith & Andrew whose concerns were ignored found alternatives.

Some good points Toks. I usually posted race reports to try and encourage others rather than tell others about my exploits, which will be the purpose of any ride reports I may do this year.

But, 7 or 8 years ago a race report would usually have been written letting people know what a great result was achieved followed by much congratulations and back slapping
