The Hillingdon Winter Series 2006/7

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

The Hillingdon Winter Series 2006/7

Postby Toks » Sun Nov 05, 2006 9:15 pm

Taken from Veloriders 24 Oct

The Winter Series will run from Saturday 2nd December 06 - Saturday 17th February 07.

Races will be held on Sat 23rd December, Sat 30th December and also on Tuesday 26th December and New Years Day.

Apparently there's a seperate events for 4th cats. If you feel your ready a chance to get some early season points. I can't imagine too many 4ths cats will be racing

may do one or two, no mention on BCF events website or in racing calendar booklet, although Christmas time is usually time for home stuff.

Toks, From what I've read, it seems that there will be 2 groups E/1/2s and 3/4/Js:
The race will be split into E/1/2s and 3/4/Js categories and although they will race at the same time, they will not be allowed to merge.

I might consider doing one or two as training in Feb. Then again , feb is a bit early in the year. :(

Hey Gav.....get well soon. It's not a bad time to be off the bike 8)

I think if I get the urge to race I will chose this over cyclocross, which is what I did on Sunday with Maria and Aodan - man that was painful!

Yep you're right Matt! Ordinarily I'd stay away from the winter series as a 3rd or 4th cat. Who wants to be get a right going over in less than favourable weather in an E123 race?

However, if I was a fairly fit 3rd/4th cat I would definitely give it a go this time for two reasons. Firstly its gonna be a fairly mild winter this year (don't quote me :); and secondly, you're not racing against E12's. And furthermore its a great chance to get some points on board whilst some people are still finding their feet or more than likely stuck in 'base' mode...Its not gonna be as hard as the training group ride from a few weeks back so if you can survive that unscathed - you're ready!...And before anyone mentions it, to save you from 'winter star syndrone' you can always ease off in March and build up again to start racing at the end of April/or beginning of May. 8)

good points there, Toks.
I take it we'll see you in the E,1,2 's then? :)

To be honest, I'm not that worried about getting points on the board or anything like that. I'm one of those riders who's just glad to be there, rather than one who's aspiring to be a 2nd cat. However, if it is a mild winter, then I might dip my feet in the early season water as you suggest. The thought of gulping down huge lungfulls of icy air whilst on the limit, is not my idea of fun. I'm probably not aiming to be fit until May anyway.
I think I'll play it by ear and see how I feel..... :D

They've change the points distribution again so Sylv you can test your legs against those super strong 2nd cats who stopped racing once their points total was just short of 200

- BC points will be issued in 3 groups: Elites & 1st, 2nd & 3rd and 4th Cats. - Each 4th Cat race winner will automatically be advanced to the 3rd Cat races for the rest of the series.

It's a drag to try and remember a route to ride to Hillingdon.

Weather looks dreadful anyway so more likely to do clubrun instead (on the mtb if it's raining too much!).
