What happened on the return from the cafe today?

From what I can make out, that poor bloke was delibaratly "taken out". Did anyone get the number of that white Mondeo?
If so what can he/ we do about this, BLOODY OUTRAGEOUS!!

Was me. And yes, I'm sure that I was 'taken out'.

I think someone got the reg plate, and we told the police. Went to the doctors today to get an injury report for any possible court case.
Am feeling fine though, just a very sore arse.

David, where were you and what's your take on events, esp. re White Mondeo ?

From what I saw near the front of the group, two cars went by me, braked behind zimzum as he was pulling out, next I saw a maroon people carrier as it swerved to hit ZimZum. That was the number I got as it sped off. Didn't see any white mondeo at this point. Another motorist in a blue car (behind the maroon people carrier?) stopped to give her details but wasn't involved.

Indeed. i think it was a maroon people carrier, or X5 or something, that swerved to take me out.
Someone else mentioned it might have had blacked out windows.
No memory of a mondeo, but thanks for concern anyhow.

Have just checked bike over, and all I think need doing is a new rear mech, the rest is just scuffing, though as you might know, a scuffed bike can be as bad as a cracked frame for some.

So Marco, you'll be glad to know Scatto is generally OK

Sorry to hear about this zimzum. If you've been injured you can still make a claim even if the car driver is not identified (hopefully he/she will be which makes life easier). If the driver isn't identified and you do want to make a claim let me know and I can give you some guidance on what you need to do. If you are injured and are thinking about claiming you should see your GP even if things seem relatively trivial.

The police looked at the bike and did note that nothing was obviously broken. He wouldn't have checked the derailleur but best not exaggerate too much.

Sorry but I didn't see the incident at all, I only saw the aftermaft and heard mention of a white mondeo.
I was just completly dumbfounded that someone would wanna do such a thing after just passing a group of 20+ riders.
I cant understand the mentality behind such an action; geeze you much of held him/her up for a good 2 seconds?
And I was also to the understanding that this was the first time in 8 months that you had been out with the club. Thats the sh1t!!!

I've only just tacked onto this thread, but am I right in assuming that this twat deliberately hit you? If so, you have to do all that you can to see that the Police do their utmost to get this bloke off of the road. Never mind worrying about a bit of rear-mech damage...replaceable, no problem. He's a potential murdrer. Falling any other way, or to a different side or at a different angle, and the circumstances could have been tragicly different, rather than outragously disgusting.

I feel the chances of the driver being unregistered etc.. are pretty low considering the type of vehicle. But on the downside only a complete arsehole could of done that, so it is entirely possible; but keep thinking positively.

Do you have enough info and proper witnesses.
Should we put out an appeal for more, in a special newsletter and a mention before this weeks clubrun?
It cant hurt having 5 or more witnesses prepaired to testify!

5 potential witnesses stayed behind to wait for the police, names etc. and a brief statement were taken. The accident investigation dept will be following up and taking proper statements. Anybody who was there should probably write down now what they saw, it could be a while before the follow-up happens.

If anybody else feels they have something to add they should probably contact zimzum as above. Especially if they can give a description of the driver and if the driver did anything out of the ordinary as he/she was passing the group before the incident. Also where this white mondeo fits into the picture.


Maybe I'm just cynical but, I got the impression the police could leave this drop if it wasn't persued. The danger is, they could be thinking no serious injury, no positive driver id, only a cyclist = no case.

Why not get in touch with the legal departments of either British Cycling or The CTC, assuming you are a member of one of them, and as you're in the club...you should be. They will, I'm sure, press the Police for you and you will be covered under their insurence for just this sort of thing. Failing that, I think there are some ads in 'Cycling Weekly' at the back for accidents etc.
