coaching and the club, session 3

Right, come on you lot, the weather's been rubbish, but thats no excuse not to brush up on your skills along side your winter training/riding.

The 3rd club coaching session is this saturday (6th dec) meeting at Coulsdon station at 9am for a 9.15 start and heading to Leigh
For those who've been before I want to add to what you've already practised and for those who want to join in for the first time the format will start with close group riding with a bit of through and off practise, followed by other excersises to help improve bike handling and confidence.

The aim of this is not to go hammer and tongue and have a serious interval training session, but to slow things down, to force much finer bike control through slower speeds and build a much better riding relationship through a group. This means it is suitable for all comers and everyone who's base training at this time.

Ideally all on road bikes but not essential.

This will hopefully be the last session at Leigh for a while, after this I'm moving across to a slightly better/technical circuit which is used for racing in the summer.

Hope to see you there, remember its FREE, its all part of being a club so make the most of it.

cheers

Jayne

the 3rd club coaching session went very well on saturday at Leigh.
It took abit of cajolling and pursuading some of the people to have a go at the session but once they were there and doing it everyone seemed pretty happy with the drills.
there was a 50/50 mix of men/women and a new junior came along too on his first club ride/coaching session.
The abilitites were very mixed and those more experienced riders were able to assist some of the slightly more novice riders along the way.
The session started with a through and off practice. This helps me to assess who's at what level of ability. It becomes pretty obvious when asking people to do this exersise who can handle their bike well and those who need more practice.
The whole group started to look very tidy at the end of the through and off so the group was split into 2, with a more experienced group heading out first with the baton to work on a relay type excersise using a baton and passing it through the group.
I worked with the other less experienced group doing the same thing, just a little slower.
by the time we had all had a go at it, it was time to join everyone back together and see how it works when you double the number of people in the group and pass the baton through.
It was really good to see everyone communicating so well and helping each other. I saw a marked improvement in everyones communication and handling skills, it can still be worked on, you don't become an expert in an hour but I think special thanks go to the chaps who helped the new junior get to grips with learning to control his bike better.

The next club coaching session will be 10th January 2004.

I hope to see some more of you out there as the circuit will change to a more technical one in the new year. So you racer types can have a go at a real circuit used for evening handicaps and you club runners can have a change of scenery on the way to charlwood.

thanks again to everyone who had a go and made the session happen.

I would have come, but my parents are iffy about Addiscombe and I had a tennis training session (won't happen again, for another 4 months, so a real inconvenience).

Day off from school today (Varsity Day), and I did 11 miles down the Limpsfield road and back home to remotest......road, in 50 minutes :) :P Somwhere on the way to Titsey, before turning back.

Very good ride..... I might join the Agreeable ride sometime.

[quote="marco"]alright andy!
out of interest are your parents iffy about addiscombe in particular or cycling in general

you'll probably find that there are a few wives/husbands in the background who are also iffy about addiscombe when they discover how much time their spouses spend out on the bike!!!!!

look forward to seeing you out soon

Erm.... mainly both. They want me to ride with someone.... so it's quite confusing.
