I don't have the results, I'll let Jon post them up later. Needless to say George won on scratch, but Rob Taylor did a cracking ride on his beautiful yellow fixie spinning his 86" gear for a low 24 and winning the handicap.

After pushing off I went and spotted numbers for Tim. A few things struck me - George just looks bloody quick as he roars by, Carole is the female Kenwood - super smooth and very aero, Ant and Chris (2 newcomers to testing following the test session we did) both seem to have picked it up like a familiar old hat. Good times the pair and both looked to have "got it all out" or close to.

Chris - for the SCCU 10 call the organiser and let him know the you've got a time for the handicap. You'll need to tell him your name, the event was "Addiscombe CC Club 10", the date (27th May), the course (G10/42). I doubt he'll want/need to know as it won't alter your handicap but also note George Brent as the winner and what his time was. For future 10s you enter the top line (1) on the CTT form you fill in these details, or then replace them all with the details of Saturday's event of you get a new PB from that one - whenever you PB note these details to update your entry form.

I tried to take some pics at the finish but only took my point and shoot camera so most didn't come out and I gave up (light too low and riders moving too quick for the auto focus and flash to pick them up). I did salvage the following two though.

Great pic there Mr :mrgreen: , thats my 'tongue out' entry sorted, couldn't waste the oppotunity now could I.

Enjoyed tonight, quite pleased with my effort as I was nursing a dodgy left knee that felt like it was going to implode so couldn't quite give it 100% but was close to it. I just set my goal on passing my minute man which was Ben and as he's a pretty strong rider I knew my time would be ok if I achieved that which I did. Its good seeing another rider in front, makes you go quicker and gives you a target. Ended up passing the ladies too, hope my shout didn't hurt your ears Carole.

Was a good turn out to, well done everyone for making the effort and putting in some great times, esp Rob, seriously quick.

Oh and big thanks to George in his van who let me draught him all the way from the top of Pebble hill to the Kingswood junction, I needed that as I was starting to suffer on the way home.

Okay, so while Andrew provides the art work, I'll provide the science... I know some of you will scoff at the thought of a graph of an evening 10, but then I know there are plenty more of you who will be interested to see. So here it goes.

As I said at the car park upon the horror of my official time of 24.01, I was a touch quicker, at 23.55 for 16.11km. But of course, I can't argue with the offical time, and 24.01 is a new PB. All be it for only my second flat(ish) 10TT. The usual speed stats, 40.35km/h, a shade over 25mph. Cadence average of 103, which is quite good, I tend to average between 70-80 in road races. Average HR of 187 and a max of 193, which is about 7bpm away from what I would expect if I was fresh and not coming off the back of a cold.

Now the business end, an average power of 326w, and a max of 999w. Which is at the lower end of what I expected, but higher than Toks' 310w prediction :wink: I am fairly certain that I could add at least 15w the average, and soon, I should have some tri bars to play with that might knock off some more seconds for me. It is interesting to note that for the first 8km, I averaged 336w. Therfore had an average speed of 41.3km/h and a time of 11:32. So a possible estimation to make would be that given similar conditions, me and my standard road bike could do 23:04 if I could maintain this for the whole distance, which I reckon I could if I was really fresh/on form.

So on the return leg I lost about 50 seconds compared to the outward leg. This meant my average power had fallen to 318w, and my average speed was down to 39.45km/h. I kinda knew this, as I was saying to Mark and George that I perhaps hit the first leg a little too hard. I think in my short TT career to date I have found the opening minutes quite 'stessful', in that until I settle into my rythm I am a bit ragged. But I guess that comes with experience.

Technically I think I rode ok, fairly smooth, and my high cadence suggests that this was the case. Although I did kinda screw up the turn, running very wide, almost to the kirb and having to brake a touch more than I ought to have done. But then I was keen to catch Mr Munnery who was only just ahead of me by this stage, although with his diet of long hilly rides of late, it was still a solid ride by him. Similar to myself in fact that much longer road races and riding was hardly good prep for a short effort like a 10. It is quite rare that I push this hard for a comparably short time. So credit to the TT specialists, especially the likes of Mark McLaughlin who still had me by about 15 seconds (officially :wink: ). Don't worry, I'll get you next time!

Interesting that my heart rate was pretty much constant throughout the whole TT. 186bpm av for the first 8km and 188bpm for the second. Perhaps an indication of my body struggling to cope with the demands of the second half of the race. As the 186bpm av from the first half coincides with a much higher power output than the 188bpm of the second half.

Anyhow, was fairly enjoyable I suppose! So thanks to Jon, Joyce, Tim, Andrew and Snoop for their official duties. Next time I will crack 24! Must do soon as I would like to crack 23 before the end of the season!!

Well done Adam, just keep knocking off the same amount each TT and you're laughing. I'd be surprised if you even out the spits completely as the drags are different in each direction on that course, but having a better idea of where they are and which one's which helps after a few goes up and down it.

On the timing check the settings on your computer, perhaps even a proper manual measurement of one wheel revolution compared to what the manual says the distance is. The stopwatches are official timekeepers ones, synchroised at the start and ran for 4 minutes before the first rider went off so they will be bang on - also independent and not reliant on when you start your watch or the wheel sensor picks up the magnet for the first time.

It doesn't have to be out by much on your computer setting to give you a slightly different reading. The computer I've stuck on my TT bike is still set for a 700x23 tyre, but I have 700x20 tubs running a higher pressure on it. You wouldn't have though a 3mm difference on the tyres could make much difference but over a 25 it gives me a distance of either 25.4 or 25.5 miles (I can't remember which as it's varied depending how soon after the finish I've pulled the computer out). I don't look at in a 10 and only as a guide in 25s, just need to sort it out before I do a 50.

Good Graph Adam, you really gave it some power from the gun there, you can vertually see that for 30 secons you were out the saddle honking up to speed then when the power just blipped down you must have got down on the Aerobars. Also you can see you got to Snoop at about the 11 minutes 30 mark, cool interesting data, maybe I should have got a power meter but I chose a Xentis wheel instead :wink: Its a shame the forum cuts off the right hand side of some pictures I seem to get the same problem too :?

He didn't have tri-bars George (but he has youth to counteract aero aids :D ). I've read that a common mistake people make is to sprint off too hard at the start (I know I do on a fairly regular basis). If what I've read is correct you want to get up to your TT speed quickly but smoothly, sprinting off at the start takes you over that speed but your mind is saying get going quick asap, you then have a slight dip below your TT speed as your heart tries to catch up before everything settles down. Doesn't take that long but not as efficient. One of these days I'll get it right :roll: .

Nice work Adam. I chose 310 watt as your possible average cause I thought you'd loose a little power riding in a tri bar position. Seeing that you rode on the road bike 320+watts make sense :D . With that sort of power weather depending ~22mins should definitley be possible. But to do that in the words of Samuel Jackson you'd have to become one... "SLIPERY MUTHA @%?@*£". I read on the time trialling forum that someone did the hour averaging 250ish watts so with little head wind and a truly aerodynamic position big things can happen :wink:

Thanks to Jon and team for organising Tuesday's evening TT.

My first ever TT, so I'm quite pleased with the 27.53. Things to improve on are my balance at the start (was convinced Mr :mrgreen: was trying to tip me over!) and to take the right exit at the first roundabout - I was going to Capel and had to stop and come back out on the roundabout!

Not sure I got the pace at the start right, and probably slowed down a little too much at the 2nd roundabout, but other than that I thought I kept things reasonably even.

Looking forward to trying again in 2 weeks time.

Don’t get too hung up all that data Adam.
It all seems far too complex and takes the fun out if it all. You did a good ride, enjoy your new PB. I know you will go quicker.

It wasn’t the best of evenings, those first few miles with the gravel topping made it feel sluggish and the usual headwind on the return leg is always a difficult one to master.
Don’t aim to low, I bet you could do a 22 on that course on a good day. That’s usually in Sept round about the Presidents 10.
