Thruxton Circuit Road Race Report by Paul Hone
Ben Kielty and I entered one of the first full field Road Races since COVID on Tuesday 24 May at the Thruxton Motor Racing Circuit.
4th Cats
This was Ben’s first race in a very competitive 4th cat field which included British Superbike Champion Scott Redding who showed his class on anything on two wheels by winning https://www.instagram.com/p/CPB4i7zHEib/
Ben was active in the race and made a break with half a lap to go which got caught and finished mid pack – not bad for his first effort.
3rds
I didn’t have the best preparation for the race as I was working in the garden all day and pulled a muscle on the left side of chest. I don’t think it affected my performance but while riding it felt like I was having a heart attack all the time.
The race was very aggressive from the start with attacks firing off the front and the first lap averaging 29 mph. Unfortunately, I missed the winning break but managed to help create a 2nd break of 4 with 14 miles to go – not the most enjoyable/disciplined group but we managed to fend off the peloton all the way to the finish and I ended up 7th overall.
It’s Club Sec – Jon Weldon’s turn tonight at Thruxton and his first race too IRL. Good luck Jon 😊
